icon Greetings From A Turkish Bosniak!

Hello! First of all, I would like to say that there's "officaly" 400.000 Bosnian origin people (Turkish Bosniak mix) live in Turkey right now. I am one of them. My family forced to move from Tuzla at Balkan War times. My grandmother was a Bosnian, not Turkish. We migrated to Turkey just with 5 people. The rest of the family stayed in Tuzla and we have lost them. I'd like to come to Tuzla, which my ancestors told the stories about.. Where my ancestors belong. (they lived there almost 500 years.)
I know that I don't belong there but I'd like to find my grandfather's house and rest of family.

Please do not forget, we are 400.000 and almost 50.000 of us still talk Bosnian language.

Have a nice day!!!

P.S.: It's one of the Turkish- Bosniak newssite

Hello! I just joinned this website to know something about Tuzla. Because Tuzla is where my grandfather came and I really wonder it. My grandfather was from Tuzla and his surname was Skendic. (they changed it with a Turkish surname) I think Skendics are big family and some part of it forced to move in Turkey. Unfortunatelly, we do not know any family member but a few. Like all alone. I wonder that is there any other people from Skendic family? I know lots of Bosniaks from Turkey but they mostly from Yeni Pazar- Nova Pazar or Sarajevo. We want to come to Bosnia to see our second country. My grandfather couldn't turn back his own Tuzla. He died before see it again. Where he spent his childhood. It wasn't so easy to go "Yugoslavia" this times. You know it better than me.

Thanks by the way.Have a good day!

look, Vaka-Vaka, maaan or ma'am
it's easy to get to Tuzla from Turkey, much easier then you think,
you don't have to ride horse for weeks or sit in train for couple days
just couple hundreds EUR and fly, even express two ways ticket if you don't like your grandfather motherland...

so no kidding, you're always welcome...
I have to admit, never heard for that family name Skendic ... since I'm not from Tuzla...

there are two skendics in the tuzla phone directory (both women)

i might be an utopist thinking that data on your ancestors could be found in the tuzla archive, but it is worth trying.

their web site is here, you may want to pursue through email.

anyhow, should you come to tuzla, you will found that it is much different to what your grandfather told you as stories of his childhood, and you can visit a FB page Tuzla - grad i ljudi with old photos and stuff.

also, go through the tuzlarije portal (click in the above logo-like header) and see the galleries (rather rich!)

anyhow, welcome to the forum and welcome to tuzla, once you decide to pursue the adventure

Your country has made a huge progress in the past 10 years. You are one of the most powerful nations in Europe and perhaps in the world. So do not be so skeptical.

Bosnia is another story... .

..but we have big
