Some 34 victims found in mass grave in Bosnia, 17 years after Serb conflict SARAJEVO, April 25 (KUNA) -- A number of Muslim families in Bosnia-Herzegovina got the chance on Saturday to finally pay their respects to some 34 of their loved ones, discovered recently in a mass grave in the eastern region of Vlasenica. Omar Masovic, chief of the team assigned to search for missing persons in the country, said that the bodies were able to be identified by family members after DNA tests of the deceased individuals. He told KUNA that all the victims were Muslims, and were part of a massacre carried out by the Serbs during their 1992 conflict with Bosnia. The victims, all civilian, were presumably taken to a remote area and were shot dead by Serb forces, followed by their mass burial, he added. Eyewitnesses and family members identified the victims, who they said were taken hostage from their homes which they never returned to. According to Masovic, autopsies reveal the effects of cuts and bruises on the wrists of the victims, caused by chains and ropes they were bound by. Some of the victims are children and elderly individuals, who chose to stay home out of harms´ way. Vlasenica witnessed the carnage of over 2,000 Bosnian Muslim civilians by Serb forces. The demographics of the town have also changed, once housing a huge majority of Bosnian Muslims, yet now is home to a Serb majority who have settled in the area after the migration of its original inhabitants
